Pak Mie and his wife Mak Intan (Pak means 'uncle') have devoted over 20 years of their lives to rescuing the stray dogs and cats around Alor Setar in Kedah, Malaysia. The shelter has received support over the years from people supplying donations, food and medical intervention. Lately though, the shelter has grown in population and the couple struggle to feed and medicate over 700 dogs and cats (needs to be verified).
I met with Pak Mie and Mak Intan in July 2013 and produced this film from the footage and interviews I shot.
The couple now are facing a real problem, bad publicity on Facebook is adding great stress to them as well as the spectre of eviction hanging over their heads. The couple secured land to move to, but this was blocked by the local council and some members of the public. They now face eviction from the land they are currently squatting on, if they do not move by December 2013, the council may demolish the shelter and the animals may face an uncertain future.
Right or wrong intentions, good or bad, these people and their animals need help. It's up to you how to respond and please research all the facts before making decisions.
After meeting with the couple, I feel it's now my duty to them and the animals to document the cause and raise awareness of their plight.
