New Weird America is a music genre... this channel is for music based videos which fall under this genre.

"The musical style described as New Weird America is derived mainly from psychedelic rock and folk groups of the 1960s and 1970s, including American performers Holy Modal Rounders and English and Scottish groups, such as Pentangle, The Incredible String Band, Donovan, and Comus. It also finds inspiration in such disparate sources as heavy metal, free jazz, electronic music, noise music, various ethnic musics, musique concrete, tropicália, and early- and mid-20th century American folk music. Another primary inspiration is outsider music, often played by technically naïve and/or socially estranged musicians, such as The Shaggs, Roky Erickson, and Jandek. Other genre classifications with similar aesthetics are psychedelic rock, psych folk, freakbeat, and freak folk. The music has been covered extensively by L.A.-based Arthur, which ran in-depth pieces on Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, CocoRosie, Animal Collective, and Six Organs of Admittance, released the compilation The Golden Apples of the Sun, and curated the ArthurFest (2005) and ArthurBall (2006), featuring a variety of artists from the movement."

I had a wonderful discussion with the artist Jonas Einarsson moments after I created this group... I posted this site onto my music page thru Facebook... and Jonas had commented the following...

Jonas Einarsson: "Well, I may be on Vimeo and I may be new & weird, but I'm not american. Will check out your videos though..."

Heidi Harris: "... well, just because it says America... doesn't mean you have to be American to join it, I say!!... its still weird and NEW ;) in fact... I'm going to specify that right now! Thanks fer calling this to my attention, Jonas... It is after all my group... so I say anyone can join it!"

Jonas Einarsson: "How wonderful! Always thought that was a strange name for a genre but stylewise I do have a few songs that might fit. I guess if you don't have to be latino to play latin music there's really no reason why you'd have to be american to play 'New Weird America'. Now I have to make some videos!"
