Archive Interview with acclaimed British film director Lindsay Anderson (circa. 1996), conducted at his home in London by Coventry based filmmaker, Alan Van Wijgerden. In this hour long interview, Anderson discusses Free Cinema, his early days as filmmaker and his world view.
Alan Van Wijgerden says: Lindsay was a hero, his if.... typified the childhood revolt of school days. He was gracious in allowing a group of unknown, aspiring filmmakers from up north to come down and interview him. The questions were chosen as a result of going through all the printed works available and thinking 'that's interesting, I'll ask him that!' With hindsight it read like a difficult exam paper and I was thrown sometimes by his retort "What do you think?"
Extracts from this interview are included in my feature length documentary, Reel Dreams (2011), which is available to watch here: vimeo.com/61411828
There is also an audio only 90 minute discussion which I might yet make available.
