A short documentation of my parkour, filmed through a single days solo training in Reading, late December '07. I've included the mistakes (1:23, 1:40, 2:25); one point I really wanted to demonstrate is how well parkour conditions oneself to deal with faults and problems in our movement - whether this be through repetition and practice to improve upon something, or the overall level of competence we gain so as to be able to control our movement even if something does go wrong. I like to think it conditions us to deal with problems outside of parkour in a similar way too.

I see this as somewhat of a reference for what the average traceurs solo training might look like, though obviously I'll only ever experience my own.

Nice video, i was tempted to say that it would have been better with some music backing, but just the sounds of what was around was better having watched it again.

some fish eye going on with the camera though, was that planned?

I actually started editing this with a Portishead track to back it, but after a few hours it became clear that no music would suit the simplistic and personal nature of a solo-training video, so it ended up as it is now.

Not planned but unavoidable - I don't actually own any video gear so I have to borrow from friends, what I get is what I get. I this case an old Canon DV cam with a cheap wideangle adapter (thus the distortion). Shooting all but 2 shots of this video completely alone I was somewhat limited as to where I could put the camera, and a lot of the spaces were quite tight, so on goes the adapter. It would be nice to have access to a completely rectilinear wide angle lens to shoot video with but unfortunately I don't see it happening for some time!
Oh, and this isn't even HD, I upscaled it on export. Looks better so long as you don't full screen it - again, if I had access to HD you can bet I'd be using it!

Great Vid :) I hope your training continues to improve. For a non-traceur it is already impressive.

Very nice. I also need to get back into practicing parkour but, unfortunately, I live in an architecturally dead neighborhood. Motivational. Thanks. :)

Definitely a refreshing change to see a video without music! My ears are bleeding from listening to too much music I hate when watching PK videos (though portishead is good stuff).

Really nice flowing stuff, too. I am completely out of practice, and mean to get back into PK. This is inspiring stuff.

This is by the Hexagon right? It's nice to see that there are at least some cool goings on in Reading.

Locations are Mayors Garden @ Hexagon, Garrad St and the train station. Kept it to just a few areas, we train all round Reading though. Clocked your name from Flickr btw, one of my photos is in your favourites.

Great video. One question - what is that harness-like thing that you are wearing around your shoulders?
