Performative Architecture Studio 2011 (Melbourne University)

Sketches in "Processing" of a 4 week workshop on swarm intelligence algorithms. Swarm scapes takes as a departure point the fact that we should no longer think in terms of individual elements but look into their properties and base our organisational scheme on one comprehensive gesture which incorporates difference, while deriving from a set of simple rules. Initially , by understanding basic flocking principles further behaviors are being developed, in relation to a certain concept, in that case the rehabilitation of the volume of a quarried landscape. A specific environment is being imported in the form of a point cloud, and a series of behaviors are being introduced, relating to architectural criteria, on a multitude of scales aiming to delineate an overall behavior for the structure.
Swarm scapes is a study on using architectural imagination to proportion information.
