We shot this slow motion video for British GQ ipad July issue. Bottled in a glass skull of the type considered magical by ancient civilisations, the vodka is quadruple filtered through Herkimer diamonds.
Shooting with the Sony FS700 camera, we tested different variations of shoot speed, types of liquids, density and temperature to get this effect. It all got quite scientific at one point, with calculations using the Snell's law and diffusion equation.
We played with ratios of ink to water and movement to build momentum. With so many formulas, it would have been an expensive shoot to use vodka!
The camera was best for high frame rates, which gave very slow motion footage in HD quality.
Every take was beautiful and at times, the skull had a mind of its own, filling just one side, which must be its mystical powers!
