"We want to help the church remember where it's been, where it's come from, 'cause that helps inform who we are and gives us an orientation toward the future." Dale Patterson is the Archivist-Records Administrator for the United Methodist General Commission on Archives and History (GCAH) based in Madison, NJ at Drew University. The agency maintains a vast collection including miles of records and hundreds of thousands of photos. Here you will find documents penned by famous figures like John and Charles Wesley, Francis Asbury, and Frederick Douglass, to news articles published just this week. The collection is open to the public. There are historical treasures waiting to be discovered. "You go through a lot of materials until you hit a vein of astonishing interest. And then once in a while you hit a mother lode. And that's what makes it exciting," says archivist Mark Shenise.
