"3 Miles East" was conceived as a portrait of my parents. Together, they run a seasonal greenhouse business that was started by my grandparents in 1947. The idea was to chronicle a full cycle of the operation from one spring to the next.
While I had not intended to be a prominent character, my own dilemma unavoidably came into play: Do I follow in my family's footsteps? Or do I accept the “wider call” of artistic expression? I see the finished film as a meditation on this life choice.
