1 day agoGrowing Cities Movie commented on HELP! Issues with Canon 7D, iStopMotion PRO, and PTP modeHi friends, I figured things out and we've been using the program to great effect. With the 7D you need to make sure its on video mode!! I had it on picture mode and it wasn't working no matter what configuration I tried... but video mode allows you to get the live preview on the camera's lcd screen (not the live view on iStopMotion) and take the preview photo thru iStopMotion. Then you can add that image to the timeline. That way you can get the onion skinning, the overlaying effects, the tilt shift, all that good stuff. Let me know if this is just gibberish and/or if you have any other questions. I hope this helped. Cheers - Rufus

1 week agoGrowing Cities Movie commented on HELP! Issues with Canon 7D, iStopMotion PRO, and PTP modeHello All, I'm currently working on a stop motion animation sequence for the main title graphic for my documentary. I have a Canon 7D and acquired iStopMotion Pro 2.8.4 to facilitate an easier experience with the animation process. Their lists clearly show that the 7D is compatible with their software but I get no such luck when I connect the camera to the computer and open the program. It says the live view mode is unavailable for 7Ds and to manually update the previews. However, with the 7D selected, I can't get iStopMotion to take the preview photo for me. It tells me the operation has timed out. When I use the EOS utility program I can get the live view just fine so that makes me think it should work with iStopMotion. I can take the photos and them manually import them into iStopMotion but that kind of defeats the purpose of having the program in the first place. Looking up the supported cameras list, the Canon 7D is on the compatible list, and it says it needs to be on "PTP Mode." I can't find anywhere on the camera, in its manual, or on the internet that talks about this mode with the 7D. So frustrating!! Has anyone dealt with these issues in the past? Does anyone know how I can surmount them? Or any suggestions to simply choose another route? Any and all help would be really appreciated!! Thanks all and good luck with your own filmmaking - Rufus

Growing Cities is a documentary film about urban farming across the U.S. It follows two young men on their trip across the country as they discover how urbanites are revitalizing the social, economic, and ecological fabric of their cities by growing food. The filmmakers do everything from catching bees with urban beekeepers to working with bicycle-riding farmers who tear up lawns and plant gardens in their place. At the core of the film is re-imagining what is possible in urban settings and inspiring Americans to create growing cities of their own–places that are healthier, more sustainable, and socially just.
