Helena Hunter is a UK artist based in London and her practice spans live performance, photography, film and video. Her work is body-based and addresses cultural issues relating to the politics of the body, the construction of gender and the formation of desire. Her practice incorporates the body and movement, and utilises the body as text, site and sculptural tool to explore the tensions that exist between imagination and reality, desire and language, gender and representation.
Her work has toured throughout the UK and Europe to festivals and venues including The Barbican Centre, The Royal Opera House, The City of Women Festival in Ljubljana, FEM Festival in Girona, Instantanee Festival in Rome and the International Body Art Festival in France. In 2011 Hunter produced Displacements a solo exhibition at Jerome Zodo Contemporary Gallery in Milan. Hunter has received various awards including the Artsadmin Bursary and a grant from Arts Council England; she was short-listed for the Arts Foundation Award 2011.
