Hello Electric's founding member, Kirk Ohnstad, created the first album, Soundwaves, using beats made entirely on hardware and an eight track digital recorder. After Soundwaves, Ohnstad reached acclaim in Portland and eventually toured as guitarist behind the release of Church Mouth with up-and-coming band, Portugal. The Man.

Hello Electric took on its live form when Kirk Ohnstad, Zachary Bendt and Henry Gibson began composing songs and perfecting their live show in and around their home base of Portland, Oregon. The ensemble has garnered merit as a dark, dynamic and intense live show. Combining primal aggression with a fevering electronic pulse, Hello Electric's elemental sound quickly molded into music rooted with a native minimalism.

In 2010, Portugal. The Man's, John B. Gourley saw potential in the trio and took hold of the reins as producer for their next LP. The resulting album, Skychief, is the band’s first studio effort and yields an enigmatic, visceral sound that exploits a wealth of new material. Skychief represents a heightened clarity and purpose in Hello Electric’s evolution.
