Last month, Hernando earned his MFA at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts where he received the Dana and Albert Broccoli Award for Filmmaking Excellence. His BA is from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television with an emphasis in Stage Directing.
While full-time in film school, he completed two independent features. First, his award winning debut, LAST LOOK - the Polanski inspired psychological drama will continue its festival tour through this year. Hernando is currently in post-production on his latest feature, A REUNION. The road dramedy counts The Ebersole Hughes Company (HIT SO HARD, ROOM 237) among its Executive Producers.
With extensive industry experience, the filmmaker has worked in production offices (Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center, Mike Nichols’ Charlie Wilson’s War, Noah Baumbach's Margot at the Wedding), on-set with large-scale filmmakers (James Foley's Perfect Stranger, NBC’s Lipstick Jungle) and completed A-list internships (Playtone Productions – Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, Double Feature Films – Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg). Other notable experiences include the Ingmar Bergman immersion at Lund University in Sweden, Film Independent’s Project:Involve (Screenwriting Fellow), and the Reykjavik International Film Festival's Talent Lab. In addition, he was a 2013 and 2014 Sundance Screenwriters Lab 2nd Round Finalist.
