In 2006 the Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin was founded as a pilot project of the Tanzplan Berlin to create new qualified university degree programs in the field of contemporary dance. Since April 2010, at the end of the four-year pilot phase the HZT Berlin is continued under the auspices of the University of the Arts Berlin and the School for Dramatic Arts "Ernst Busch" in cooperation with the TanzRaumBerlin Network.

At the HZT Berlin you can study one Bachelor and two Master degree programms: „Contemporary Dance, Context, Choreography“ (Bachelor of Arts), „Solo/ Dance/ Authorship“ (Master of Arts) and „Choreography“ (Master of Arts).

A close connection between education and professional practice characterizes the programs of study. They have an experimental approach between teaching art, communicating the academic basics and mentoring an introduction to career practice. The focus is placed on creatively and critically addressing what dance, performance and choreography are – and can be – as art forms in today’s society.
