Hey Brenton,

I'm also using the 501HDV head. You'll attach the slider to the 3/8 screw on the 70mm or 100mm halfbowl tripod, and the actual head is attached using a 3/8 screw underneath the main sliding plate.

Use an allen wrench to remove one of the side "stoppers", either one is fine, and slide the plate off the slider. I also recommend removing the little piece with the screw that creates friction and leaving it unattached. It seems to only get in the way and my movements have been smoother without it.
