Founded by Shinichi Iova-Koga in 1998, inkBoat is a physical theatre & dance company built by and with the collaborative efforts of choreographers, musicians, dancers, actors, visual artists and directors. Presenting in environments ranging from proscenium theatre to site specific, inkBoat’s performances mix experimentalism and humor with a hint of the grotesque.
inkBoat has been awarded “Outstanding Achievement in Company Performance” from the Isadora Duncan Awards (Izzie) for the 2008 production of “c(H)ord.” “Outstanding Performance Izzie” for 2004’s “Ame to Ame” and “Best Visual Design” Izzie for 2003’s “Heavens’ Radio.” Most recently, 2011's "Line Between" was awarded an Izzie for “Outstanding Achievement in Visual Design."
inkBoat has been presented by numerous venues, including Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (SF), ODC (SF), Japan Society (NY), Red Cat (LA), Southern Theater (MN), University of California (Riverside) Painted Bride (Philadelphia), Vancouver Dance Festival, Dock 11(Berlin), Fabrik Potsdam(Germany), Schloss Bröllin(Germany), Kunsthaus Graz (Austria), Divadlo Disc (Prague), Plan B (Tokyo) and Die Pratze (Tokyo). Funding support comes from numerous sources including the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, New England Foundation for the Arts, Phyllis C.
