Jack Rath

Jack Rath studied cinema and music at La Trobe University in Melbourne, before completing a Bachelor of Media Arts in film, video, sound and art-theory at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). During this time he gained production experience in different departments within the film and television industry. After graduating, Jack began working as an editor and was nominated for an AFI and an ATOM award for his work on the BighART film “Hurt”.

In 2000 Jack based himself in Berlin, and while producing his own projects, he has continued editing an array of projects, and together with Jörg Diernberger founded DNR – a creative team creating scripts for German film and television.

Hi short film, “Olli” has screened in over forty international festivals and received several awards and commendations including – Best Foreign Film Fic Mosteles Madrid, Deutsch Filmbewertungsstelle Prädikat “besonders wertvoll” & Short film of the month (German Film Rating Board: Especially Significant Commendation), Special Jury Award Sleepwalkers International Film Festival, Tallin Estonia.

In 2007 Jack was approached by the German non-profit organization Bewegliche Ziele e.V. in co-operation with Vision Kino - to direct films with young people on “kids make a short film”. The project received a 'Besondere Kanchenjunga 2007 at the 'Dieter Baacke Prize' for media projects aimed at young people and the elderly given out by the German ministry for family. In 2011 the project was one of the winner's in the German federal government's 'Land of Idea's' competion.

Jack has tutored in editing at the IDFA Academy Summer School in Amsterdam and also has worked with the Australian Film Commission at the Berlin Film Festival, and is a Alumni of the Berlin Talent Campus. He regularly collaborates with theatre, opera and performance projects.

Having currently completing the documentary “Between Home', developing a feature film 'Orphan Sources' and is associate editor on Eron Sheean's
“Errors of the Human Body' with Instinctive Film.
