I'm James and I'm a Film student and a Photographer. I've always loved taking photographs and filming things since i was about 12 years old when I'd photograph me and my friends skateboarding. In 1994 when one of my friends got a Mini VHS camcorder, my role in our group was turned into becoming the documentarian of our skating, with the emphasis being on me filming him so he could get sponsored. I had no problem with this.

My first film I made was in the summer of 1995, called 'A Day in the Life' and was about our skating adventures that we had captured on film from the past year. I sat up at night for about a week straight during the summer between my 9th and 10th grade years and edited this film with two VCRs hooked together. The result was an imprecisely edited and highly degraded piece of work; highly degraded because some of the clips were 6th and 7th generation dubs because of the music and lettering that I had put on them with our Best Buy-bought music and lettering equipment. Technically speaking, it came out horrible - but to us it was a piece of gold that spoke volumes on our times as teenagers, skaters and friends from the summer of 1994 to the summer of 1995.

I kept filming skateboarding after that until we all quit then moved on to basic, boring family events. Fast forward a decade, I bought a used Sony VX100 and planned on getting back into skating and filming, but that never happened and I sold my camera.

After going back to college in 2009 to finish my Physics degree I decided I would switch my major to Film. So in January of 2010 I became a Film student and I've never looked back nor been so happy with my choice of vocation. That semester I met my friend, Tyler Gorrell, in our University's Student Film Association and he introduced to me filming on DSLRs as he'd just bought a Canon 7D. I had been familiar with DSLRs before, as I'd just bought one a year before, but filming on them seemed stupid to me. Well, 5 months later I bought a Canon T2i and have been filming with it since. It's to the point that I don't even WANT to film with anything other than DSLRs. I've found my niche and I'm happy with it.

Recently I was introduced to time lapse photography by Tyler and was intrigued. I've since researched it and read up on it by masters such as Philip Bloom and Dominic Boudreault and have started trying some of my own and figuring out how to incorporate those into cinematography. It's very exciting to say the least.

That is a brief overlook into my time of making movies. I plan on continuing this route for as long as I can and making some truly great movies.
