Jan Nimmo Plus
Scottish artist and filmmaker specialising in ethical and social issues.... Jan has worked and travelled extensively in Latin America and is a regular visitor to Spain. Her Green Gold project greengold.org.uk is a collaborative art project which looks at the lives of Latin American banana workers through portrait, testimony, installation and documentary film. Bonita: Ugly Bananas vimeo.com/19898988 and Pura Vida, vimeo.com/18953426 her first two films have both won awards and have been screened internationally. La Chacina de la Suerte looks at small scale, sustainable food production in the Sierra de Huelva, Spain and her most recent film, The Road to Drumleman vimeo.com/26629011 is the story of Scotland's most remote coal mine, which closed in 1967. Based in Glasgow Jan works on a range of community art projects, filmmaking, graphics and makes her own art work.
She is researching and documenting traditional agriculture, including cork production and la dehesa, in Sierra de Huelva, Southern Spain. This year, Jan has filmed and edited banana workers' testimonies in Cameroon, Central Africa for Make Fruit Fair and these short films will be available online soon.
