Jared began his career performing stand-up comedy, which merged his love for found items and PowerPoint. He has since gone on to perform his highly original multimedia performances across Canada and the United States. It wasn’t long before Jared and his work was broadcast around the world on CTV, CHUM, Fox UK, CW Network and XM/Sirius Satellite Radio. Soon after beginning as a stand-up, Jared began producing comedy shorts.
Jared quickly began to learn the in and outs of Film Production, Visual Effects and Motion Graphics.
His films have also been featured on the front pages of the largest video sites on the Internet including YouTube, Myspace, the iTunes store, Funny or Die (placing 1st and 2nd in their Funniest Video in Canada contest) and Crackle.
Jared has been a leading force on the fledgling Toronto comedy scene having been a founding member of such highly acclaimed live shows such as Righteous Wednesdays, Laugh Sabbath, Not Safe for Work (Now Magazine’s #3 comedy show of 2007) and Canker. In addition to the aforementioned shows, Jared also collaborates monthly with comedian Sean Cullen on videos for his live chat show, The Sean Schau. Jared also joined Sean in Vancouver at the 2010 Winter Olympics producing multimedia content for The Sean Schau. In 2006, Jared joined the Toronto based sketch uber troupe The Sketchersons and in 2007 after several previous nominations, the group won the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Sketch Troupe.
Jared’s films placed 1st and 2nd in 2007′s Funniest Video in Canada contest, which was sponsored by Will Ferrell’s Funny or Die. The film, “Everydave Life” was screened in competition at the 2008 Just For Laugh’s Film Festival. Everydave Life was also nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award in the category of “Best Web Video”.
In 2012, Jared co-created, directed, produced and edited the fifteen episode web series, Guidance. The series was a success and was renewed for second season as a full length TV series starting in Summer 2013 airing on BiteTV in Canada. Guidance was nominated for three 2013 Canadian Comedy Awards including, Best Web Series, Best Male Performer TV/Web for Rob Baker and Best Director TV/Web for Jared.
Jared has also directed highly popular and acclaimed music videos for such artists as Maylee Todd, The Good Lovelies, Woodhands, Laura Barrett, The Gravity Wave, The Bicycles and more. These videos have been featured on KCRW L.A., MuchMusic, MTV, CBC, AuxTV and more. EMI Canada approached Jared in 2010 to write and direct a viral video campaign for the release of Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album.
Jared has also taught film production as a part of the Humber School of Comedy and Humber TV Writing and Producing Program. He has also been a featured speaker on the subject at Ryerson University and The Toronto Sketch Festival.
After years of successful freelance production, Jared opened Mind Control Media Studios in the heart of Liberty Village in Downtown Toronto in 2011.
