Jason Magabo Perez is a Filipino American writer, performer, and educator. His writings have appeared in TAYO, Witness, and Mission at Tenth. Formerly a featured artist for the New Americans Museum and the AjA Project, Perez has performed at the National Asian American Theater Festival, the International Conference of the Philippines, at several universities across California, and at venues such as the Asian Art Museum SF, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Galoka, and the La Jolla Playhouse. In 2011, Perez wrote and performed in You Will Gonna Go Crazy, a multidisciplinary play-in-progress for which he and San Francisco-based choreographer/director Alleluia Panis were awarded a Challenge America Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. For the past several years, Perez has taught writing, performance, and ethnic studies at various university and community college campuses in San Diego. Perez earned his MFA in Writing & Consciousness from the now defunct New College of California and is an alumnus of the VONA/Voices Writing Workshop for Writers of Color. Currently, Perez is a dual PhD student in communication and ethnic studies at the University of California, San Diego, where he is exploring Filipino American histories, hip hop epistemology, performance, and radical pedagogies.
