Fine Vintage is a family-owned company, operated by James and Sondra Cluer. The company operates seven WSET wine schools, consults to a variety of international clients, and provides consumers with advice on buying wine.
As a Master of Wine, James is regarded as one of the world's leading experts on wine. The MW is considered to be the pinnacle of qualifications in the wine industry. There are only 26 MW's in North America and 264 worldwide.
As a consultant to the wine industry, he manages the selection of wines for a major international airline, is the wine advisor to Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, buys wine for a chain of retail stores, and consults to the BC government. He is also an advisor to Meyer Family Vineyards.
As a passionate and enthusiastic wine educator, James draws on his 16 years of international experience to make the WSET wine courses fascinating, fun and always delivered in a relaxed style. He has worked with high profile winemakers in France, Australia and California and visited the majority of the world's wine regions. He has taught over 1,500 students the WSET courses and has one of the highest pass rates in the industry. The Fine Vintage wine courses are so highly respected that they are offered in partnership with the University of British Columbia.
James is fortunate to taste hundreds of wines per year. Each month he writes a shopping list of the best wines to buy in the subscription-based newsletter James Cluer Selects. This publication has a unique method of providing consumers with advice on buying wines. Each month James tastes every wine available in a variety of categories (eg Australian Shiraz) and evaluates them for quality and value for money, and then lists the Best in Class. This provides consumers with a useful shopping list of the best wines in each category.
