John Damien Ryan
John Damien Ryan has a long history of working in animation starting with Tim Burton's studio and the feature, "James and the Giant Peach." With this film, a long relationship with Disney Feature Animation began.
Mr. Ryan started his editing career working in Visual Effects on features with Disney like "Reign of Fire" and "Kangaroo Jack." In 2005 he left Disney to help start up the Los Angeles production offices for the animation studio, IMAGI, and edited the #1 Box Office Hit, "TMNT" (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Upon completing his work on "TMNT" he then returned to his Disney roots and started working with two-time Academy Award Nominated Producer, Don Hahn, on the award winning documentary about Disney Animation, "Waking Sleeping Beauty." Mr. Ryan and Mr. Hahn continued to work on 5 features before being recruited by Lucasfilm Animation to work on an untitled Animated Feature with George Lucas.
At Lucasfilm, Mr. Ryan got the rare chance to work one on one with Mr. Lucas. In the cutting room they worked together sculpting story and shots. It was an amazing opportunity for any filmmaker. Upon his retirement, Mr. Lucas handed off the project to new producers and Mr. Ryan decided to return his family to their home in Glendale. He’s glad to be back in LA and feels stronger for his experiences up north. He looks forward to getting back into the cutting room with an amazing crew who will be excited to have someone with his experience with them.
