Kewley made his professional acting debut in the 1975 AFI multi award-winning motion picture THE DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND (1975) followed by MAD DOG MORGAN (1976) opposite Dennis Hopper & Jack Thompson, and went on to star in television series like ARCADE (1979-1980) and the ABC-TV criminal justice series JANUS (1994-1995).
Over the years he has had recurring roles or guest roles in dozens of other iconic series - everything from BELLBIRD to THE SULLIVANS to THE YOUNG DOCTORS (1970s); COP SHOP to PRISONER to PATROL BOAT (1980s); NEIGHBOURS to SEACHANGE to THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER (1990s); and THE SECRET LIFE OF US to BASTARD BOYS to VERY SMALL BUSINESS to BED OF ROSES (2000s).
Recent television career highlights include playing one of the leads in UNDERBELLY FILES: TELL THEM LUCIFER WAS HERE (2011); five years as Bryan Gray on STINGERS (2000-2004); nine years as local journo Tony Timms on BLUE HEELERS (1997-2005); recurring roles on McLEOD’S DAUGHTERS (2007-2008) and WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THAT GUY? (2008-2009); and was submitted for an AFI Award for his powerful performance as a child-killer on CITY HOMICIDE (2009).
On the big screen he’s had starring roles in US pictures DISAPPEARANCE (2002) set in New Mexico, and THE X-TEAM (2003) shot in the New Zealand Alps for Touchstone Pictures, as well in Australian pictures including AMY (1998) and THE CRAIC (1999). Next up, he stars as American film producer Jerry Goldman in the motion picture FRANK & JERRY (2011).
Kewley spent twelve years writing, producing and starring in the theatrical revues at HUNCHBAX THEATRE RESTAURANT (1995-2006). Recent stage credits include the romantic male lead in CALL GIRL THE MUSICAL (2009) at Chapel Off Chapel; the Melbourne International Comedy Festival farce IT'S ALL FUN AND GAMES ... UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT (2011) and the Australian tour of WEST SIDE STORY (2010-2011) playing to packed houses in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
On radio, he can currently be heard on Melbourne #1 Talkback station 3AW every Wednesday on AFTERNOONS WITH DENIS WALTER.
One of only a handful of Television Audience Warm-Up Comedians working in Australia, Kewley has been an integral part of dozens of popular shows including TEMPTATION, WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE, 1 VS 100, YOUNG TALENT TIME and THE X FACTOR. He has also been the audience warm-up comedian on THE FOOTY SHOW since it began in 1994, including the shows broadcast live from London (2001 & 2005) and Munich (2006), and recently celebrated the shows special 500th Episode (2011).
And he's warmed up the audiences for THE MARNGROOK FOOTY SHOW on ABC 2 since it began in 2011.
Kewley was the Master of Ceremonies at THE AFI AWARDS (2007-2010).
