It's all about the light. I'm a photographer and visual artist with a passion for the subjects and places that I photograph, mostly being the scenic landscapes and natural details of where I'm originally from - Ohio - as well as where I currently live, the "Low Country" of coastal South Carolina. I've been involved with photography since starting with a 35mm SLR camera, all the way back in the late 70's, and a black and white darkroom. I'm mostly self-taught but stay active in ongoing educational programs, professional certification and juried print competitions through membership in PPA, PPO and NANPA.

A number of my nature and landscape prints are installed in major medical facilities throughout Ohio. In addition to retail print sales and working with select commercial art dealers and decorators, I present a regular program of both one day and weekend destination nature photography workshops. I am also a commercial photographer providing portrait photography services for corporate clients, high school seniors and families as well as assignment editorial, product and architectural photography. I'm currently working on the sixth book in my ongoing series of self-published projects that highlight my nature and landscape photography.

I own and manage Picture Ohio, LLC dba/Photography by Jim Crotty from a gallery/studio/office on Hilton Head Island in the Low Country of coastal South Carolina. I relocated to S.C. from my hometown of Dayton, Ohio in April 2011, however, I frequently return to Ohio to present and teach nature photography workshops. I'm a proud, single dad of two beautiful daughters who keep me laughing, smiling and constantly moving forward in living and loving the best way I can, by staying true to myself, my art and the pure joy that comes through the creative process and connecting with the good light.
