John Palanca is an award-winning filmmaker living in Toronto and holds a Film Production degree from York University. He has written and directed several short films with successful screenings at film festivals. His film On the Shore was long-listed for Canada’s Top Ten 2013 programmed by the Toronto International Film Festival and selected for the National Shorts Programme at the 42nd Festival du nouveau cinema. Previously, his film Youth & Tradition received the Best New Canadian Student Director award at the 2012 Montreal World Film Festival. John’s films focus on themes of memory and loss, and often investigate the quiet nuances of everyday life.
John is also a cinematographer with a foundation in lighting for film and television. His work ranges from long and short form dramas, documentaries, commercials, experimental work and music videos.
