Jo Ho
Jo Ho is a self-taught, award-winning British screenwriter and director who was named Winner of the Women In Film and Television's 'New Talent' Award (2010).
In the same week, she was also nominated for CDN's 'Best Breakthrough Production Talent' Award, with her TV series, Spirit Warriors in the running for 'Best Children's Programme' at 2011's Broadcast Award's.
Prior to this, she was named one of the Top Ten Outstanding Young Chinese People in the UK, and presented with the Big Ben Award for her 'Outstanding Achievement by a Chinese Woman in the UK Film and Television Industry’.
Her first short film ISOLATION 9 won best film at the Buffalo San Film Festival. She followed this with MONKEY NUT TALES - chosen by Film London for their prestigious PULSE strand. In addition, Jo has been selected for international development schemes including Pygmalion (Pal Labs) and sponsored by AMPAS (Oscars Association), NFTS and the Film Council on a trip to LA, as one of the UK's top upcoming talents.
Jo gained her first broadcast credit when she created and wrote SPIRIT WARRIORS, the UK's first TV drama series to star a predominately East Asian cast. She followed this with a judging stint for the BBC Writersroom scheme, BBC Bites.
Jo is the first East Asian person in the UK to have created a television drama series.
In addition to her own work, Jo teaches and provides script reading, coverage and consultancy services. Clients have included John Calley Productions, Universal Studios.
WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW
Since Spirit Warriors, Jo has been hired as a story consultant for BBC Worldwide and to script three films, two US based: an action thriller and a fantasy romance, and the third a dark fairytale. She is now in development on several original feature screenplays and a supernatural teen series.
