Judith Nab’s installations and performances, mostly without actors, are characterized by a playful, surrealistic confusion, provoking a heightened awareness.
Her focus has always been on the tension and interplay of reality, perception and distortion. And the relation between human and his environment.
Most notable elements in her work are the usage of light and darkness, and the persistent blending of all kinds of new and old media and elements to create optic and mental illusions . Moving objects, mirrors,(16 mm) film and video, sound and samples, recorded and real time projections, etc. Most of the work is site specific; other work fits the classic Black box theatres or sometimes aims at exhibition spaces.
Judith Nab: “In my performances, like in reality, real images continuously intermingle and mix-up with intimate images that originate in recollections and imaginations. In the completely darkened rooms where the performances or installations take place, everyday objects and events are isolated thus enhancing the disorientation of the visitor in a literal and figurative sense.(..) I am more interested in the things that connect people than in what makes them different.”
