Julien Landais is a film director and actor born in Angers, France where he spent his childhood immersing himself in learning about European history and art.
He has directed short films and music videos starring prominent actors (Alain-Fabien Delon, Marie de Villepin, Nora Arnezeder...), fashion icons and models (Daphne Guinness, Gerhard Freidl...) and has collaborated with major fashion brands (Christian Dior, Saint Laurent Paris, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Dsquared2, Jitrois, Christian Louboutin, Alexander MacQueen, Victor&Rolf...), avant-garde designers (Gareth Pugh, AP Vandevorst, Charlie Le Mindu, Irfe...), jewellers (Boucheron, Dior Joaillerie, Chopard, Montblanc...), cosmetics (Mac, Yves Saint Laurent...) and top hairstylists and make-up artists to create unique looks for his films.
His work is largely influenced by fashion and photography, by film directors like David Cronenberg, Stanley Kubrick, Baz Luhrmann or Jane Campion, but also by the Japanese manga series that carried him away in his childhood, like Saint Seiya or the Rose of Versailles.
Music and rhythm are always a starting point in his working process, being himself a pianist, and it's always emotions arising from melodies and harmonies that bring him to imagine visual universes.
His taste for lavish, historically meaningful settings (Domaine National de Versailles, Hotel de Soubise, Espace Niemeyer...) and futuristic Tech-Noir atmospheres create an arresting background for iconic characters and sensual situations.
Always researching, he likes to delve into new territories, techniques or advanced technologies (2D, 3D, matte painting, SFX, lense flares...) he uses to craft his films or that inspire him to create images of the future.
He is currently working on the production of four breathtaking fashion films and his first feature film.
