Juse One
Juse One is my artist moniker; I am a graffiti artist, poet, educator, and filmmaker. Born and raised in Kingston, New York, I discovered an affinity for the arts from early childhood, and have pursued visual arts throughout my life.
In 1998 I discovered graffiti. As I noticed the work left on walls, freight trains, tresses, highway overpasses, and even inside my high school art classroom, a lifelong obsession began to develop. Under the tutelage of Kingston writers Omek and Aktr (then Ader), I became Juse - a moniker that stands for "joyfully unique self expression." This identity developed and progressed as I gained a higher skill level with spraycans and an increased level of education.
In 2008, I graduated with a BA in Media Studies from Hunter College. Focusing on documentary video production, I began to contemplate the possibility of making a film that showed the reality of Hip Hop in places the places where I grew up. By graduation, I completed a 17 minute short film on this subject. By the spring of that year, I began develop that film into a full length documentary film, Beyond Gotham: Hip Hop in Upstate New York. The film sets its sights on the hidden treasure of Upstate Hip Hop by visiting places Albany, Kingston, Rochester, and Syracuse.

Currently, I am residing in Copenhagen, Denmark. I am a graduate student at the University of Copenhagen in an MA program entitled Cognition and Communication. My upcoming project is "Perker, What?!" a documentary about Hip Hop, urban youth, and racial discrimination in Copenhagen.
