"Singing is not what I do, it's who I am. If I can have a positive impact no matter how small on the world we live in today then with my last breath I will sing!" ~Kat
For Chilliwack British Columbia's 17 year old rising star Kat, music is as much a part of her, as is her Aborignal heritage, and culture. It comes as no surprise that Kat expresses herself through songwriting, and singing. Kat, and her family belong to the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band of Corner Brook, Newfoundland.
Her passion for singing started at an early age. She began taking singing and piano lessons at age 7, and has taught herself to play guitar. Kat has had the opportunity to study SLS (Speech Level Singing) under the guidance of Darcy Deutsch (Canadian Juno Award Winner).
Kat's vocal power, and range allow her to sing any genre, but she says that her style is definitely R&B. Kat's musical influences are Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, Shontelle, and more recently Adele.
People frequently say she has the voice of an angel. In describing Kat's voice recently someone said, "The difference between a good singer, and a great singer is that a good singer is around for song or two, and a great singer stands the test of time because when they sing they move you." When Kat sings it's infectious, she has a natural ability to draw you into the song, connect with her audience, and make you feel something."
Winning a spot in the Metropolis Glee Club, being mentored by Canadian Icon Jann Arden for Jann's CBC radio show Being Jann, becoming a finalist in the Valley Voices 2011 singing competition, and performing live on ET Canada at the PNE with the Metropolis Glee Club brings her one step closer to realizing her dreams.
Kat plans to continue working hard toward her goal of becoming an international singer and performer. She is currently recording her first Debut EP.
Kat has performed live at many venues including Fairs, Cafes, Festivals, Churches, Malls, and High school Musicals. If you'd like to catch Kat singing she has fast become a regular at Kasas Cafe in beautiful downtown Vancouver, the Summer Night Market in Richmond, as well as numerous venues in Vancouver, and the lower Mainland BC. Be sure to stop by and say hello, Kat would love to meet you!
