Kevin Doyle
Play
KEVIN DOYLE grew up in the shadow of a large American shopping mall. While working for several years at odd jobs throughout New York State, he studied art, literature and theatre on his own. Returning to college in 1999, he graduated with honors from the Drama Studies program at Purchase College (SUNY) and enrolled in the graduate theatre program at Brooklyn College (CUNY). In 2004, his plays STYROFOAM and COMPRESSION OF A CASUALTY were produced to critical acclaim in New York and California. Since then, Doyle has written and/or directed seven original plays, while working as a music video director in France, Sweden and the United States. The author of several plays -- including THE POSITION, NOT FROM CANADA and THE AMPUTATED YEARS -- he serves as the Artistic Director of the Brooklyn-based theatre company, Sponsored By Nobody. SBN presented two world premieres in 2009 -- first, the long-awaited "W.M.D. (just the low points)" on March 4-5, 2009 at the annual international arts festival -- The Game Is Up! "How to Save the World in 10 Days" -- held at the Vooruit Arts Center in Ghent, Belgium -- and second -- "Behind The Bullseye" at the Ontological Theater in New York City on July 1-11, 2009. His theatre work with Sponsored By Nobody has been supported by two appearances in Soho Think Tank's ICE FACTORY festival; the Puffin Foundation; the Foundation for Contemporary Arts; the East End Arts Council; the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's SWING SPACE program; the Ontological-Hysteric INCUBATOR program; BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange; a Performance Development Award from chashama and the National Endowment for the Arts; and a USArtists International Award from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation. Doyle was a 2008/09 recipient of the Thornton Wilder Fellowship at The MacDowell Colony; is a 2010 Resident Artist at Mabou Mines; and was recently awarded a 2009 "Future Leaders" Fellowship from The New York Foundation for the Arts. With his company, Sponsored By Nobody, he is a recipient of a 2010 Artist Residency at The Watermill Center and a 2010 "Residency @ chashama" in New York to develop the next major SBN work: "ATM or this is [not] new york." Doyle prefers to spend his free time listening to music in his backyard and drinking Westmalle dubbel.
