the mirror is a half-silvered mirror (or it can be called one-way mirror, used in interrogation rooms for example) that lets the light from behind it appear on its surface. behind the mirror there's an LCD monitor that shows the animated heads.

it kind of works like this even when you see them on top of each other -- because they're on different focal planes you see them together but separate -- and have to shift focus between them. its reaction is also a little delayed so it definitely feels like it follows you more than replaces you.

should have called them deamons : )

i will try different ways of documenting it next time -- head mounted camera would be pretty funny but i would probably do the job
