Born and raised in Taiwan, Kai-Ting is a filmmaker currently based in Los Angeles. She studied Journalism and English literature in college, and worked for award-winning programs designed at the Public Television Service in Taiwan after graduation. Through this experience, she developed a great interest in stories that explore cross-cultural themes, and this inspired her to pursue further studies in the art of filmmaking.
Kai-Ting recently graduated with an MFA degree in Film & TV Production at the University of Southern California. Her thesis film, Paper Lotus, tells the story of Tess Chen, a young accessories designer who struggles to balance her career and family obligations while trying to navigate her grandmother's traditional Taiwanese funeral. During her time at USC, Kai-Ting has made many other films, including the internationally award-winning Efrain, of which she served as producer. It's the story of a Hispanic boy whose actions to defend his family spurs into a series of events that will change his life forever. Kai-Ting is also a recipient of the Tania Trepanier Scholarship and the Bernard Kantor Award.
