Leli Maki Esq. is a graduate with a BA in Film and Media Production from UCT in 2009. Thereafter he read for his Honours majoring in Documentary Film and Diversity Studies. Leli cut his teeth as a freelance producer for CTV, in Cape Town, during his postgraduate study. He has produced several music videos and filmed inserts for the Real Goboza. Leli directed the behind the scenes documentary of the making of Winnie The Opera, “Winnie’s Song”. Leli also directed the 2012 short film “Somebody”.

Leli has added the Durban International Film Festival Talent Campus 2012 to his list of industry achievements. His writing credits include an SABC 3 drama, “High Rollers”. Leli is also a firm believer in culture as a form of expression and more importantly as entertainment for audiences. As a result Leli is currently directing a documentary, “Imphepho” which deals with issues of cultural and spiritual ownership in South Africa. Leli is the Multimedia Director for the Indoni “Ms. Cultural South Africa” pageant, which is a televised celebration of culture and the roles of traditional female leadership in South African communities. Leli is also vice-chairperson of the South African Screen Federation (SASFED) as well as being active member of both the Documentary Filmmakers Association (DFA) and the Independent Producers Organisation (IPO) industry bodies.
