Videos from the Mara Triangle in the Masai Mara, Kenya.
The post-election violence in Kenya has caused the tourist industry to collapse, and without this vital source of revenue crucial park operations, including anti-poaching and de-snaring patrols, will have to stop in the Mara.
We urgently need friends of the Masai Mara to help us get the message out that the Mara is under serious threat. We are starting each month with not enough funding to see us through to the end. It is only with the kind help of small donors from around the world that we have made it so far. Thank you.

Wildebeest Crossing the Mara River into Mara Triangle
Yesterday afternoon along the river, tourist vehicles were waiting for hours where the wildebeest were massing on the Narok side of the river, hoping to see a crossing.
Further down the river I was closing tracks when a few wildebeest suddenly appeared in the thickets on the opposite side. Within about 20 minutes their number was so large that they started to come down the river bank and immediately a crossing was started.
I could see that some were not so fortunate when they fell down the steep ledge as I saw a few arise with broken legs. One was also caught by a crocodile, which you can see in the video.
It was an incredible sight and I could see wildebeest from the distant hills running to this crossing point. It was a very large crossing - several thousand in just over an hour.

1 LikesThe Coming of the Wildebeest
This morning near Mara Bridge we could see many many wildebeest covering the hills in the Tanzanian Serengeti.
They have been gathering for the last few days and their number now is very large. The Sand River is very shallow with no crocodiles at this point, but for some reason they do not cross yet. Instead they just come down to the river to drink.

I captured hyaenas eating a dead hippo at Maji ya Ndege marsh. The hippo seems to have died naturally.

2 LikesMale Lions Fighting
We found a male lion this afternoon which had been mating with a female. When we arrived the female got up to hunt, and the male left in the opposite direction.
As we headed back to Serena we then saw another mating pair of lions by the road. The male lion could hear the other lion roaring, and roared quietly in response. Eventually the now lone lion found the mating pair...
