BIO

Dominican born journalist Marlene Peralta moved to the United States at age 14. She started her reporting career in high school writing for a teens magazine called Youth Connections when she wasn’t fully fluent in English. While pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at City College she collaborated with the Associated Press, El Diario La Prensa and later became the editor in chief the college’s Campus Newspaper.

After graduation she was hired by a weekly newspaper in Queens, covering issues, like gentrification and local elections. Then she went on to write for “New York Newsday” and later for AMNew York newspapers. Her academic goals did not stop at City College, she received a Master’s degree in broadcast journalism from the newly opened CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, and continued gaining experience in print and broadcast media working as the editor for the weekly bilingual publication Latin Week NY and as podcast producer for 1010WINS online with a Spanish language segment called 1010WINS Noticias. She also wrote for the now defunct LatinoU Magazine and TimeOut New York, and mercadodedinerousa.com on a freelance basis.

Marlene also worked as a producer and host for HITN TV, a national bilingual television serving the Latino community. She is currently a producer and talent at Channel 75/CUNY TV and works for the international network RT TV en español on a freelance basis.
