A Fort Lauderdale native, Parker came to New York in 1999 to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. He spent two years with Maynard Ferguson and his Big Bop Nouveau Band, touring in the U.S. and abroad. Matt can be heard on the band’s M.F. Horn VI: Live at Ronnie Scott’s, as well as on recordings by Jesse Elder’s Foldersnacks, Hess Is More, Reggie Quinerly, and Greg Garing. He performs regularly with the Candy Shop Boys and the 2s & 4s, which he co-leads with Julio Monterrey. His debut album Worlds Put Together (release date: 5/21/13 BYNK Records) includes a remarkable continent of players who are leaders in their own right, among them Elder, Quinerly, Monterrey, guitarist Josh Mease, and bassist Alan Hampton. It’s a band that navigates Parker’s classic-cum-modern style exceptionally well.
