Mayer\Leyva is visual and performance artist Jillian Mayer and retired playwright Lucas Leyva. Together films they have written and directed have played at Sundance (two years in a row), SXSW (they had 4 shorts play last year and have another in competition this year), AFI, Milan, Los Angeles, Slamdance and over two dozen other festivals. Recently, they have been listed in Filmmaker Magazine's "25 New Faces of Independent Film."
Their music videos have premiered on Stereogum, NME, Vice, Pitchfork and Rolling Stone and have been named to various year-end Top 10 video lists, including IFC. "I Am Your Grandma" became an unlikely viral sensation that has been spoofed on various TV shows and was featured on the cover of Art Papers Magazine in September/October 2011.
Their last online video “Jacuzzi Boys: Glazin” was a multiplatform performance piece featuring six fictional characters that became infamous after getting over 600,000 views in 48 hours before being banned from YouTube permanently. Their first collaboration, "Scenic Jogging," was exhibited in the Guggenheim Museums in New York, Berlin, Bilbao, and Venice as part of a creative video biennial. They are based out of Miami where they help run Borscht Corp. and the Borscht Film Festival.
