What does it mean to be Maltese? This question has been asked by so many people: intellectuals, philosophers, linguists, artists. All these tried to answer the question by trying to change or infuse in the social structure a new way of looking at themselves. When this occurred crisis began, thought became excessive and a consciousness towards these rules became evident. The poor people that were the largest social group of our islands, did not know if they were Maltese (because of colonialism) but yet they had managed to forge a living language where nowadays languages have become a stagnant cannon; they managed to forge a way of approaching music, hwere nowadays music has become universal. This is all dying out at the detriment of our search for the Maltese essence; in our comparison with efficient, powerful, (apparently) strong societies.

‘Melitesk’ is a tentative ‘experimental’ band that questions everything, giving way to every possibility that can be explored. It does not want to exhibit a ‘good Maltese’ but rather re-imagine the human being. Re-imagine ourselves in the doing, in the creation, in the organization of sound, in presenting our origins in relation to our future. Melitesk was conceived by Andrea Sacco Baldacchino Cascun and Andrew Abela, later on being joined by pianist Claudio Teuma Castelletti. Melitesk makes use of beautiful instruments such as guitars, violins, percussions, and piano, to present harmonic but also disharmonic arrangements. Melitesk does not want to propose music for exhibitionism, but to arrive to a level of art in the elimination of the self and presenting music as an experience.
