Born 1962 in Edinburgh, UK, Bonaventure studied with Herrick Bunney (organ) and Judith Weir (composition). For 10 years he has been the resident organist at All Saints Church, Blackheath, in south east London. Inspired by artists such as Karl-Erik Welin, Bengt Hambraeus and Jean-Pierre Leguay, Minimalism, Experimental and Electronic Music, he has developed a very personal compositional aesthetic and become a tireless advocate of new music, leading numerous composers to write for him. To date he has given more than seventy premieres.
He has concertised throughout the UK and in the USA, Sweden, France, Germany, Netherlands, on BBC Radio 3, and recorded extensively on the Delphian and SFZ Music labels, with many highly-regarded CD releases.
He has written music for David Appleton (pianocircus), Sounds Positive, Sally Mays and the Merbecke Choir of Southwark Cathedral. Recent works include the 'Darenth', 'Dragon' and 'In Orbit' cycles for organ, Aria, Trio & Sextet for ensemble and an extended motet 'O Virgo Virginum'.
