Mike Babs is a young uprising Cameraman who graduated from UEL with a Bachelor Of Arts degree in Media & Communications. He is a very versatile and creative freelance cameraman. Mike has worked on several projects within the broadcast and music promotion industries in the past few years in various locations in the UK and abroad.

He started out as a Tape Logger & Camera Assistant at Carlton Television’s Factual Department where he worked on programmes like ‘tell it like it is’ & ‘AT HOME WITH THE EUBANKS’. He worked as a Camera trainee at Arri Media in 2003 as well as with the BBC on the 16mm television drama ‘Second Generation’. Mike sites the set of this feature production as the moment he decided to pursue a career as a Director of Photography (DOP) because he was inspired by Sean Bobbitt BSC (what story of his inspired you?).

Mike recalls - “That week changed my life because my focus swung from Directing to DOP. With this new directive; I went on to train at Arri & Panavision, loading mag and learning the technicality of cameras.

Mike Babs has worked and trained on a wide variety of feature films and television productions. His approach to filming is that ‘no project is too small or too large, that each project has its own challenges and rewards’. He prides himself on his ability to light with speed to a very high standard. He is also quick to adapt to any situation and his handheld work is fluid.

His enthusiasm means he is dedicated to increasing his knowledge, and continue the development of his professional expertise. Mike’s ultimate desire is to become a renowned Director of Photography/Cameraman/operator
