Lives and works in Warszawa
In my artistic work I concentrate myself currently on investigation into complex relations between human and nature, on analysis and revealing of metamorphoses occurring in nature, and on their visual representations transformed by man. It is an attempt of understanding, feeling and representation of these relations in the symbolic perspective of man, whose sensibility forms itself as through the mental-biological rootedness in nature, as through his dependence on culture.
My works refer deeply to the thought of XIX century American writer and philosopher transcendentalist Henry Thoreau, whose intentional decision to live in the forest was at the same time an inquiry of aesthetic utopia. Thoreau wants to create an existence saturated with beauty, purified of artificial values.
Following Henry Thoreau’s ideas, using various media (video, installation, painting, drawing) I search for answers considering relations between human and nature. I am interested in widely comprehended context of coexistence of man and nature, of mutual dependences and relations. I analyze processes of identification in human which occur in the process of looking at oneself in nature and reacting at its stimuli; observing similarities between behavior of people and animals I try to create complex artistic and cultural reflection.
I investigate nature also as symbolical phenomenon including meaning of the dreams. I look for similarities in plants and humans behavior and in their adaptation to new conditions. I analyze old biology handbooks in which stories about organisms seem to be stories about ourselves, contemplation of nature can be understood as looking into ones inner depth. I am also interested in cultural factors influencing on humans-plants coexistence and a role of human imagination shaping these complex relations.
