We are currently fundraising on Kickstarter for our new album. Check it out here: moemeguro.info/
SAN MAI NIKU is a record by Moe Meguro, which consists of band members Jojo Brandel, Bernie Gelman, and Buddy Hale. We recorded the first half of our LP in San Francsico on 2" tape at Studio C with engineer Scott McDowell at helm.
We want to record the B-side of SAN MAI NIKU on tape at John Vanderslice's newly opened Tiny Telephone B-room studio (dubbed "Minitel") with brand new engineers in order to bring a new sound to the second half of the record. We will tentatively record at Minitel on June 29th and 30th. Once the B-side of SAN MAI NIKU is recorded, we want to press 500 12" LPs of the record.
A pledge matcher has generously agreed to loan us the money for recording at Minitel if we are able to finance mixing, mastering, and vinyl pressing.
We are asking our friends, family, fans, and Kickstarter supporters to help us fund mixing, mastering, and vinyl pressing so that SAN MAI NIKU can become a physical, living, breathing object.
After Kickstarter pledgers have been rewarded with physical records and our pledge matchers have been repaid, all excess profit from any SAN MAI NIKU LPs we sell will benefit music from the earthquake devastated Tohoku region in Japan. Because the songs on SAN MAI NIKU were written based on the visceral sounds, feelings, and friendships that occured when Jojo lived in Okinawa, Japan, Moe Meguro wants to reciprocate that warm Okinawan large-heartedness to a very different part of Japan. It is not our intention to simply be charitable, but to show serious rock and roll solidarity and to ensure that creativity is not stifled for our friends across the pacific.
We are also setting up a tour up to the pacific northwest in mid-July to promote the project and in August Jojo will be moving to Tokyo to attend Keio University. In Tokyo he will begin to make connections and contact bands from the Tohoku region and other bands and people who want to some show post-earthquake rock and roll solidarity with rock and roll friends from Tohoku. Until Jojo finds the absolute right place and people to allocate money, he will hang onto the funds from the SAN MAI NIKU records. Kickstarter pledgers and fans of course will be informed of where the funds end up, because it will be used to help make accessible even more great rock and roll.
Should we exceed our Kickstarter fundraising goals, funds will go toward pressing a greater quantity of LPs. This will not only be rad, because more people will get to hear Moe Meguro, but that also means more funds for the bands in Tohoku. Rock and roll, let's do it!
