Monte Masi Plus
Monte Masi is an ex-Glenelg (seafront), now Mile End-based (inner city west) artist & curator living in Adelaide. Within his predominately video and performance-based practice, Monte deploys humour and self-parody to point towards issues regarding the production, dissemination and perception of contemporary art. In recent years he has exhibited in a variety of gallery and artist-run spaces, including the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia, Downtown Art Space, PICA and Seventh Gallery. Currently Monte is completing postgraduate studies at the University of South Australia, investigating online vernacular video and its relationship to contemporary art practices. He is a founding member of Adelaide's FELTspace artist-run initiative, acting as co-director of the space from 2007-2010 and a contributing author to FELTspace GOLD, FELTspace’s survey publication of emerging contemporary art practice in South Australia.
More recently Monte has curated the 1st season of the odradekaeaf window box exhibitions at the Australian Experimental Art Foundation, was a participating artist in the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia’s multi-site survey exhibition of South Australian art CACSA CONTEMPORARY 2010: THE NEW NEW, and appeared in the group exhibition Vague Possibilities at the SASA Gallery, Adelaide curated by Mary Knights.
