“Vaudeville's Darkest Muse”, Mr Pustra is a UK based performance artist, musical saw player, singer & fashion icon.
The often strange and compelling character, Mr Pustra, is based upon Commedia dell'Arte’s Pierrot and inspired by the influcences of silent films or flickers (as they were known) by Georges Méliès and artistic movements such as Baroque, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Elements of Opera, Ballet, Musical Hall, Kabuki and German Kabarett can also be found in Mr Pustra’s work. Performers such as Sebastian Droste, Marlene Dietrich and Charlie Chaplin feature as a source of inspiration for the artist’s styling. The artists' highly distinctive styling, costumes and theatrical vision evokes a decadent dreamlike world of melancholia and sepia-tinted vignettes, inspiring other artists and eccentrics alike. Mr Pustra is neither a shock nor extreme performer but has been described as a work of ‘Live Art’ similar to French singer, Serge Gainsbourg and German countertenor, KLAUS NOMI.
Mr Pustra has walked in London Fashion Week, performed at The Box, Wilton's Music Hall, The Royal Academy of Arts, Torture Garden, Coney Island (USA), Secret Garden Party and De Parel Spiegeltent, travelled the world and collaborated with many performers such as Amanda Palmer, The Irrepressibles, David Mitchell and Peaches.
Featured in Vogue (UK),Vanity Fair (Italy), Hunger TV Magazine, The Independent, Playboy (France) and the book: New Club Kids: London Party Fashion in the Noughties by Oggy Yordanov.
