Within the complexities of life’s simplest moments lies the heart of any story. This is Natasha’s motto as a writer and editor. It is those complexities that make you cry, dance, cheer, or strive. Since a child, Natasha has been fascinated by visual images, whether they were on a screen or images she would create in her mind. Rooted in old movies, as they were her father’s favorite at the time, Natasha grew up with a love for good storytelling. She would sit by her father’s side during the day as he watched his favorite television shows and movies. She would spend all her free time imitating Ginger Rogers or Audrey Hepburn, trying to take on the flair of Phylicia Rashad or Dorothy Dandridge, and wildly laughing at the antics of Lucille Ball, Bill Cosby, or George and Weasey. She would sit entranced by the footwork of Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, and enthralled by the voices of Bing Crosby and Sammy Davis, Jr. Suffice it to say, entertainment and appreciation for a medium that caters to the representation of diversity became a huge part of her identity.
A quiet child, Natasha used writing as a means of expression. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she was quickly deemed an insightful writer with a flair for visual detail. She used her skill in writing and imagination to deal with the simple and common hardships of puberty. While still a student at Ronald Edmonds Learning Center, a middle school in Brooklyn, she gained recognition from her teachers as producing written work of quality. At Clara Barton High School a few years later, Natasha had her first poem published titled, “Reach for the Sky,” and received the Editor’s Choice Award from Illiad Press. The poem was written to inspire her fellow classmates just before Regents exams at the end of the year, and addressed a few of the adversities that were facing some of her dearest friends. Natasha was also named as an All-American Scholar and was inducted into the United States Achievement Academy.
Her next road stop was Syracuse University, where Natasha held two majors. Receiving a B.A., she majored in English at the School of Liberal Arts, and then dual majored in Television at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Natasha continued to be handpicked on many occasions to be either the writer or editor on numerous low-budget productions. Among her peers she was quickly recognized as having a certain innate talent for the written word and visual image, and graduated from Syracuse University Magna Cum Laude. During her time there, she edited successful montages, short films, and continued to write short works of fiction. Natasha then returned to Brooklyn to teach English at a middle school in the Bronx. At the same time, she pursued a M.A. in the Teaching of English from Teachers College at Columbia University. In the near future she hopes to open her own production company, Visionary Creations, which will produce from script to screen television programs for the tween to young adult demographic.
