While on a cruise to Annapolis, MD on the Chesapeake Bay, show host Tory Salvia introduces extended excerpts from a popular video about a well-known southern California cruising destination.

In "Cast Off for Catalina," produced by Ted Field and Mark Ritts, we sail from Marina del Rey in Los Angeles out 30-miles to Catalina Island. Along the way, we learn about making proper preparations for sea and planning a safe voyage to the island. Throughout the show, we get tips on how to make the most of our visit from Bill McNeely, author of the authoritative book, Cruising Catalina Island.

On arrival at the island's main port of Avalon, we get personal instructions from the Harbor Master on how to properly secure a vessel to a Catalina-style mooring, then we take a tour of the quaint resort town. Departing Avalon, we circumnavigate the island, learning the pros and cons of available anchorages along the way. We stop for shore leave at Two Harbors, the other popular island locale, get an underwater tour of the famous kelp beds and marine life, then complete our Catalina circumnavigation with a return to Avalon.

After IBC 2009 Tim started Jannovia.com but site is still under construction. He is going to sell these new costeffective lightweight (REDGED) tripods also (He will give DVC members a discount)! So I'm a bit early. But love to show you, before you buy another heavy one too soon. I used all small cams the old Sony HC9, Panasonic GH1 and new LUMIX FT1 and of course my Sanyo Xacti HD2000. "Windows of Wonder" documents the voyage of Allie's Song to Desolation Sound in British Columbia in October of 2007. This musical and personal cruising video was filmed in the Gulf Islands, British Columbia and covers stops in Poet's Cove, Pender Island; Snug Harbor, Bowen Island; Pender Harbor, BC; Refuge Cove, BC; Squirrel Cove, Cortes Island; Prideaux Haven, BC; Toba Wildernest Resort, BC; Point Roberts, USA.

The voyage departed from Allie's Song's home port in Squalicum Harbor, Bellingham, Washington and sailed up Georgia Straight to the Gulf Islands. After four days, Allie's Song reached its destinations in Desolation Sound, a somewhat remote and astoundingly beautiful archipelago of inlets and islands. It is all part of the Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park.

The trip was marked by a variety of conditions: good sailing weather, currents, strong winds, calm, fog, rain, cold and sun.

A short video about boats, shot with a Kodak Z1012 IS digital camera. This is not my regular video camera of course, but I used it for the purposes of my review at FreshDV: freshdv.com/?p=2663 . It was shot at San Mateo's marina (Coyote Point). Most scenes are over-exposed as this specific camera has no exposure control in its video mode.

I first got into filming as an underwater camera operator so Papua New Guinea was like a filming dream for me.

A rich tapestry of colours characters and culture. Not only that, I was using my skills as a camera operator to help make this world a better place.

If you have never seen one of these boats check this out! They ride 2 feet out of the water on foils and move at 20+ knots down wind. I shot this last weekend in Cascade Locks. The Columbia Gorge Racing Association will be hosting worlds there in August.
