Arne Kohlweyer was born in 1981 in Wolgast (Island of Usedom) in the former GDR and grew up in Berlin. In 2008 he finished his post-graduate studies in film directing at FAMU in Prague. Prior to that, he studied photography in Graz, Austria, literature in Frankfurt/Oder and film theory at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. Arne has made various short films and directed for the German television.
In 2009 he was selected as director for the 7th Berlinale Talent Campus, while he was also chosen for the Berlinale Script Station in 2009 and the Talent Project Market 2010. 2011 he developed his feature-length project "The Whale in the Lake" in the framework of the Academy for Children Media in Erfurt. Arne has been a participant of the European Short Pitch 2010, the Locarno Summer Academy 2012 and the Torino Film Lab 2014. Arne is member of the German Screenwriter’s Guild (VDD)
