In many developing countries of the world, there are millions of school-going children who live in semi-urban and rural areas. These children have no access to a clean and safe light that can help them study after dark. Most of these children depend on kerosene or oil based lamps for studying during night. These lamps emit very low light, give out smoke, soot and toxic fumes and cause serious health hazards for the children; the children, who use these lamps, are afflicted with eye and respiratory problems. Further, these lamps are potentially dangerous, as they can result in fire accidents and cause burn injuries to the children.
India alone has over 120 million (12 Crore) school going children (as per Census India data). More than 70% of these children still depend on oil lamps for studying in the dark. There is a dire need to address this issue at the earliest.

OCOL's mission would be to support every underprivileged child's right to education by giving a safe, clean and low cost study light.
