Patricia Gouvea was born in 1973 in Rio de Janeiro, where she lives and works. She graduated from ECO / UFRJ, is Specialist in Photography and Social Sciences (UCAM) and Master in Communication Technology and Aesthetics of the Image (ECO / UFRJ). Her research focuses on the concept of time in contemporary images and the interfaces between photography and video. She started photographing professionally in 1995 and in 1997 she was selected to attend the journalism course in the magazines of brazilian publisher Abril. From 1997 to 2002 she worked as an editorial photographer producing portraits, architecture shots and reportage. In 2002 she won the award for the best work with the series Imagens Posteriores at Encuentros Abiertos de FotografÃÂa de Buenos Aires, the biggest photography festival in Latin America, and since then she began to dedicate herself exclusively to her personal projects and the artistic direction of AteliÃª da Imagem (ateliedaimagem.com.br), a school and cultural center of which she is the founder, that has become a point of reference in Brazil for teaching, research and promotion of photography and its interaction with video, film and new media.
